Saint Valentine’s Day: Consumers May Not Be the Only Ones in Loving Spirits

Diamond Studs

When you hear “Valentine’s Day”, what comes to mind right away? As humans, we associate Valentine’s Day, with bright red hearts, heavenly cupids, Hallmark cards, scented flowers and more often than not sweets for a loved one, including chocolate and candy. Traditionally celebrated around the world on February 14th, “V-day” is a time when lovers express their love for one another in the form of charity and gifts such as the ones previously mentioned. However, for many retailers (i.e. Both brick-and-motor jewelry stores, click-only Internet businesses, and etc.) this date can be one of the busiest times of the year, of course coming after Christmas.

Businesses around the world have transformed their shops into a Valentine setting, starting at least a month in advance.  They have stocked up on new shipments far in advance to make sure no customer is left behind.

Managers want not just to drive in business and bring in profit; he/she wants to build upon their previous customer relationships. They have committed themselves to researching the market beforehand. Instead of thinking about what was in, they have now changed their focus to what will happen. Marketing analysts have conducted experiments to see how personal taste has changed and customization has developed.  Simple random sample experiments have been conducted to see how willingly will consumers pay to have the gift(s) fit the wants of their loved one. However, not all businesses will charge a premium or extra price for this custom process to take place. One great example of this is Angara.com. Customers get to decide and design their own jewelry. Representatives are readily available for suggestions and/or recommendations if permitted.

So what do jewelry shops stock up on other than gold and silver? What is the secret behind attracting customers during this day? The answer to this is Rubies, Pink Sapphire and most importantly Diamonds. The types of jewelry that come from these stones include engagement rings, pendants, bracelets, necklaces, earrings and even studs. In addition, the shape of the stone can be oval, round, marquise, cushion, princess and off course hearts. In order to create appeal, manufacturers often put up to 3-4 stones in a ring, add luster to pearls and necklaces and polish the earrings and studs at an extreme. Although it is true that one tactic will not always work on any two different people. Constructing the jewelry is up to the jeweler, but preferences and deciding which jewelry is best for their loved one is really up to the customer.

As soon as mid-January comes around, both consumers and sellers are often spotted in the Valentine mood. More importantly, Saint Valentine’s Day is about the gift of giving. No matter if this is a delightful treat, luxury gift or even a simple donation. This time of the year is about bringing loved ones together, whether established or new. This day is a time to show someone that you care and you want him or her to know. One thing is for sure; Valentine’s Day is definitely a special day in all of our hearts.
